Best time to travel to Australia/New Zealand

Posted on October 5, 2015 | in Travellers Questions | by

Looking to start planning my trip to Australia & New Zealand. I am looking to spend around 3 weeks and will be flying out of Toronto, Canada. I have a budget of about 5000 so I was wondering what would be the best time to fly to get cheap tickets all the while having decent enough weather to see things properly.

For me, the best time to visit Australia is either Spring (September – November) or Autumn (March – May), not too hot nor too cold. This avoids the busy Summer Break (School Holidays) and the peak Christmas traffic (most expensive flight prices). If traveling up north to the tropics and with no other influencing factors, I’d choose to vacation in Spring, just before the wet season.

The “Tropics of Australia” is the district north of the “Tropic of Capricorn” (around the top third of Australia) and incorporates urban communities like Cairns & Darwin. Precipitation is a critical thought in the event that you need to spend some of your excursion investigating the Outback at Kakadu National Park in Australia’s far north – the “wet season” is not an ideal opportunity to do it. However in the event that Scuba Diving the Great Barrier Reef is more fit for your strengths, then it won’t make any difference in the event that you go in the wet season – whichever way you’re going to get wet and have a ton of fun.
