Escape to New Zealand’s South Island

Posted on October 8, 2015 | in Travellers Questions | by

Ive got two weeks off work and have been desperately needing the leave, so Ive decided to escape Australia for the South Island of NZ and take in some beautiful scenery and experiences.

Dates: Hopefuly arriving 16th November and leaving again 29th November at latest.

Transport: Im hoping to kick around in a rental vehicle that I can stay in if need be (like a van or small camper).

Accommodation: Although Im saying Im going solo, Im a people-loving traveller. Hostels, communal scenarios, basically wherever cool people gather is my jam. Will stay in the vehicle when I dont have this option.

Budget: On top of the costs for the vehicle and the general expectations for accommodation costs, Id be keen to throw some money at a couple of bigger activity-based things. Lets say Ive got a few hundred Aussie dollars to use, up to $1000, AUD at my disposal (above and beyond the day-to-day living costs).

Interests: Im keen on the adventurous/exploratory stuff. Wouldnt mind taking on a challenge like white water rafting or a hike or two or kayaking or bungee jumping etc. Plus, I love photography, nature and wildlife.

Itinerary: Very loose at this point. Hoping to firm it up shortly, hopefully including some of the better answers in this thread!

Hope you can help make my break from work worth it Reddit!
