6 week road trip through Ireland

Posted on April 3, 2016 | in Travellers Questions | by

My housemate and I (we live in Australia) are planning a 6 week road trip from the end of June to the beginning of August, starting in Ireland, where well buy a (hopefully) cheap van, drive up to get a ferry across to Scotland, then drive down through England to get a ferry across to France. From there were hoping to hit Belguim, the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and finish in Italy.

Weve estimated, thanks to Google Maps, about 42 hours driving in total, travelling around 3800km. We guessed we could get about two or three days in each place; more days in some places than others, some places (like England) just driving through for the day.

Considering well need at least two days total of flying from Australia and back home, are we being overly ambitious? Ive done plenty of Googling and similar questions to mine usually get responded to with "youre being too ambitious, you need to cut out places".
