Applying for F1 student visa to USA from Australia

Posted on April 7, 2016 | in Travellers Questions | by

Id like to study at a Summer School in the States in mid June. I know I need an I-20 (which I will get upon paying tuition etc.) and the institution Im going to apply to will take 3-4 weeks to get this to me. If I complete this next week, I will be looking at early May at applying for the F1.

Australians who have done this before, how long would this take? If Im going to the States in mid June, that should give me roughly 5 weeks for the visa to be processed (and hopefully approved) and returned.

Further info: I have previously held a tier 4 dependent visa for the UK (which I am in the process of curtailing) and am an Australian citizen. I am not a citizen of any other country and my first language is English. Previous background with my UK visa tells me that 3-4 weeks would be what to expect – but thats the UK and the USA Consulate/processes might be entirely different.
