Hi fellow travellers. Im looking for ideas from people who have traveled in Africa for a trip Im planning there in a few years.

Ill be traveling solo through Africa in December and January, but could stay longer.
Im studying abroad in Tanzania from August – December of this year. Ill be doing a wildlife management program that involves lots of trips to parks and reserves within Tanzania. Thus, I am not really interested in doing a traditional safari after 5 months of studying those animals in the field. However, animals are my passion so Im interested in seeing other biomes.
Im a 21 year old american woman. While I am not particularly fearful of traveling solo, safety concerns definitely rank for me. I currently plan on spending a few months in Australia and New Zealand when I finish with Africa. So I think sticking to East Africa would be the most convenient. As a side note, Im fascinated with Madagascar so Id love to hear the experiences of anyone who has traveled there. Im not sure if it is a practical destination at all, but for some reason Im into it. edit: formatting
